Raffle Tickets (Senior Choir Only)

Ways to get a raffle ticket with your name on it:

1)    Bring a signed practice log back to choir with 15 minutes for 5 days or a total of 75 minutes (5 quarter notes) on it.

·        We have posted videos that you can go to for practicing your part on each song.

·        If you can read music and have access to a keyboard or piano, you can also check out music to use to practice at home, but remember, you need to bring the music back to class and you will have to buy a new one if it gets lost or damaged.

2)    Memorize a song.  1 raffle ticket for each song memorized.

3)    Prepare a 5 minute presentation on a music topic to teach to the class.  Some ideas include:

·        Key signatures (Flats could be one presentation, Sharps could be another, the circle of fifths another)

·        Note names (where they are on the staff and on the keyboard and what they sound and look like in different octaves)

·        Rhythms (basic quarter, half, whole, eighth notes and rests could be one presentation; dotted rhythms and sixteenth notes could be another presentation; triplets over various rhythms; syncopation- these are all appropriate topics).

·        Conducting (Basic patterns- 2/4, ¾, 4/4, 6/8 would be one lesson; how to bring in with a prep breath, cut off, direct vermatas, and dynamics; how to lead mixed or unusual beat patterns- 12/8, 9/8, 5/4, etc.)

·        Time signatures

·        Dynamic markings and meanings

·        Tempo markings and meanings (accelerando, ritardando, largo, andante)

·        Music vocabulary (articulation terms like legato, staccato, marcato, or expressive terms like dolce, meno mosso, or terms that describe who or how one sings like a capella, tutti)

·        Classical composer report with short music sample

·        Background of a piece we are singing

·        Intervals (M2, m2, M3, m3, P4, augmented 4^th ,etc.- how to see them, hear them and sing them)

·        Chords (A Major chord, c minor chord, 7th chords,etc.)

·        How chords function in keys, starting with cadences

·        Sol feg

Directors are available between 10am and 10:50 at the Grantsville library to answer questions and help you prepare a presentation.  Your topic must be approved by us before you prepare to teach it.

Please let us know which date and topic you would like to do during this time, not during normal class time.

4)    Turning in optional assignments made during teacher presentations.

5)    Fill out and turn in a note card with your name and the topics which you would like to learn about from the list.
